Bruno Mars is set to make his studio debut with the release of a brand new album, titled 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans,' in stores Oct.5. This follows the successful release of his debut EP, 'It's Better If You Don't Understand,' and his hit single, 'Nothin' on You.'

'Doo-Wops & Hooligans' was announced to much fanfare on Aug. 25, just a few months after the May release of his celebrated EP. And, according to Mars, fans should expect to hear many similarities between his EP and his forthcoming debut studio album. As the Hawaii-born singer told MTV News, his recent EP should give fans "a nice effect of what's in store" for 'Doo-Wops.' "I had these songs in my back pocket, and the label thought it'd be a good time to give people a little taste of what they're gonna get with the album," Mars explains.

Mars went on to explain that the sound of his debut album was inevitably influenced by how his new songs would sound while performed live. "Every time we go into the studio we got to think about, 'OK, we're gonna perform this song.' We think, 'How are we gonna keep these people's attention?' " he says. "So throughout the whole song, it never stops. It keeps moving. And we always flip up our show. Whenever we do our shows, you might not hear the album version. You'll get the live version."

Mars also revealed to The Idolator that the album's unique title derives from his own passion for doo-wop music. "I'm a big fan of doo-wop music, my album has a little bit of that influence, with the simplicity of it," he explains. In addition to its musical roots, however, the word 'doo-wop' holds an even more personal significance to Mars. "That's what you call your girl, your 'doo-wop,'" the musician says. "I call my girlfriend my 'doo-wop!' On this album, I have records that women are going to relate to and men are going to relate to. So doo-wops are for the girls, and hooligans are for the guys."

Fans may have to wait just a little longer to get their hands on Bruno Mars' full album, but the artist has already dropped a couple of songs from the record that may hint at his musical direction. The album's first single, titled 'Just the Way You Are,' was released on July 19, while the song 'Liquor Store,' featuring Damian Marley, was released on Sept. 21. In addition to these two singles, of course, the album features three of the four tracks from 'It's Better If You Don't Understand,' including 'The Other Side,' featuring Cee-Lo and B.o.B. (Check out the full tracklisting below.)

While the official album won't hit stores until Oct. 5, fans can hear Bruno's new album in its entirety on his MySpace page, as of Sept. 24.
